Diseased Heart Drawing

Cardiovascular Disease is still the number 1 killer in America but most of us don’t seem to be scared enough to do anything about it, even though almost a million people will die from it this year. Statistically speaking, it’s the most likely reason you will die.

It’s important to note that cardiovascular disease is a blanket term given to a number of ailments that affect the blood vessels and/or the heart. Depending on what specific ailment you have, there will be different cardiovascular disease causes and risk factors. Sometimes the cause is genetic, other times it will be environmental.

The following is a list of common cardiovascular diseases:

  • Heart attack
  • Angina
  • Stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • Congestive heart failure

Some of these conditions, such as a heart attack, are very serious. Others can be managed. There are also a number of causes for these ailments.

Causes of Common Cardiovascular Diseases

Coronary Artery Disease happens when an artery is clogged or dangerously narrowed. This can cause a heart attack from a blood clot or plaque from high cholesterol preventing the flow of blood. When oxygen and other nutrients cannot get to the heart, the muscle dies. Internal Inflammation has been linked to plaque buildup.

A stroke is similar, but instead of the heart being blocked, it’s an artery to the brain. Sometimes a vessel within the brain will rupture. There are risk factors such as smoking and high blood pressure that play a role.

With congestive heart failure, the heart muscle becomes weak or damaged and can’t pump a sufficient amount of blood. This often caused by disorders like high blood pressure.

CoQ10 To The Rescue

CoQ10 is manufactured by our bodies and it’s an important nutrient. It helps cells to produce energy. But when we age, we lose a lot of our supply of CoQ10, especially in the heart. This is why taking a quality supplement of CoQ10 and Fish Oil is beneficial for protecting your health.

Understanding Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease

A risk factor doesn’t guarantee that you will come down with a condition. However, for every one that you have, the risk for developing that particular condition increases. It’s important to eliminate as many of them as possible. Common cardiovascular disease risk factors include:

  • A high BMI (Body Mass Index)
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Age
  • Ethnicity
  • Family history

You may not be able to control certain factors like age or ethnicity. However, lifestyle changes can be made to improve health. A doctor can help you with this process.
