What Have We Done?
You may recognize the picture to the left as being Spam. I’m not proud of the fact but I used to eat that stuff. Yuck! Talk about Pink Slime!
Despite our best attempts to try and improve on nature, it’s the whole foods that researchers and dieticians keep looking to for good health and true well-being.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fish and olive oil are basic unprocessed foods that humans have been eating for thousands of years. At the beginning of the 20th Century we started messing around with our food.
Our food needed a longer life so it could keep on the shelves longer, so we started adding chemicals to prevent spoilage. Of course, we all know what this has produced. Foods full of preservatives and pesticides.
Time For Some Bad News
I must admit, my diet hasn’t been so great these last 20 years. I’m now 50 years old and I was a fast food junkie for a long time. My breakfast came from a plastic package that I threw into the microwave until it resembled something edible that I could swallow with my coffee.
By the time I hit my 40’s I was feeling really bad and I didn’t know why. I thought to myself, “Is this what getting old feels like?” So, I went for a check-up. The first in 15 years.
My doctor took some blood and I waited for the results. He came back in the room with a disturbed look on his face. He said that my blood work is a train wreck. My cholesterol was way too high, triglycerides are off the charts, and my blood sugar was dangerously high.
Making Changes to Save My Life
He wanted me to try eating more natural foods and to start taking a fish oil supplement to get me back on track. Otherwise, he would need to prescribe a Statin drug for cholesterol. (Read about CoQ10-Fish Oil)
Starting Over With Healthy Food and Omega 3 Fish Oil
I went home, threw out all the snack food stashed around the house and starting researching the best fish oil supplement I could find. After a few days on the Internet, I found out that fish oil was high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which is considered to be a nutritional miracle.
It not only helps get my triglycerides down but promotes mental clarity, smooth skin and stabilizes any plaque that may have built up in my arteries during my years of poor eating.
Watch Out For Toxins in Fish Oil
I also found out that some supplements can contain high Mercury and PCB levels that are in the fish. This is why it’s recommended to take a supplement instead of eating lots of fish because the fish oil can be refined to filter out these harmful chemicals.
Unfortunately some fish oil companies don’t do a very good job.
My research ended when I found a company called Xtend Life. It’s one of the supplements we recommend. It’s called Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil. The fish come from the unpolluted waters off of New Zealand. The standards they operate by are much stricter than what is required. Plus, all of their products have a 100% money back guarantee.
I’m Back To See The Doctor
My follow up visit 3 months later was awesome. My cholesterol had dropped 70 points along with a big drop in triglycerides and my blood sugar was normal. I was so happy to hear that news.
Changing my diet and taking Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil made a big difference. I also feel much better. That sluggish feeling has gone away. Now, if I can just convince myself to start exercising…
